Volunteers
Thank you for your interest in assisting as a volunteer for TSD and the Statewide Outreach Center
The purpose of inviting volunteers to assist students in school is (1) to encourage participation to enhance school-based activities and academic learning, and (2) to increase communication and positive relationships between the school, parents, and community.
Parent Volunteer: a parent or guardian who currently has a child enrolled in and attending TSD, or is a member of the community who continues as a volunteer after his or her child has left TSD.
Community Volunteer: any member of the community who does not have a child enrolled at TSD and who wishes to undertake, without pay, a designated task that supports the school.

- Once completed and signed, you will need to create electronic documents for uploading, either by scanning or taking a photograph with a smart phone.
- Fingerprinting is not required for volunteer applicants.
Volunteer Applicant’s Required Documents:
- Criminal History Authorization
- must be signed, scanned, and submitted with your application
- DPS Computerized Criminal (CCH) Verification
- must be signed, scanned, and submitted with your application
- A copy of the FRONT side of your state ID
- please make sure the images are clearly legible
- you may scan or take a picture of your state ID and upload it to the application

Please note:
- Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
- Preference will be given to volunteers who have some sign language skills.
- References provided for community volunteers must be current references with valid email addresses.
- References provided will be contacted by email and asked to complete and return a reference form prior to us requesting the criminal history background check.
- Incomplete volunteer applications cannot be processed.
- If required volunteer or community service hours are needed, please outline all requirements, including anything needed from school staff members /supervisors.
- Only applicants with a clear criminal history background check will be considered.
- Volunteers may assist on a regular basis, occasionally, or for special events.
- Volunteer placements are subject to availability/need and are neither guaranteed nor obligated.
- Placements are filled on a first-come-first-served basis.
- Prior to an assignment, approved volunteers must also complete a brief volunteer orientation which includes a review of school policies and school safety training videos.
- Applicants will be contacted and be able to sign-up for available volunteer openings once their application is approved.
- Volunteer opportunities are typically only available during regular fall and spring school semesters, and not available during summer months or summer programs.
