Mrs. Shay White

Welcome to Geometry! It is my goal, that by the end of the year, each student will feel confident in his or her mathematical skills and abilities. My job is to help students succeed to the best of their ability and the students’ job will be to come to class prepared and ready to learn. I am excited for this year and grateful to be your teacher for Geometry.

A little bit about me

I grew up in New Braunfels, Texas (Yes, I am still a Texan Native).  In 1988, I graduated from Canyon High School. I attended Gallaudet University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and Mathematics. I had an internship as a student teacher at Texas School for the Deaf.

Although I enjoyed the teaching, I decided to pursue a Master degree in Deaf Education at McDaniel College. Again, I did my student teaching at Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind. I ended up there and I worked several years (actually, 19 years) in teaching math for middle school/high school and then moved back to Texas (What is it with me and the heat?)  where I became a math teacher at Texas School for the Deaf. This is my eleventh-year teaching at TSD. I have been a teacher for 29 years, most of which have been in the math classroom.

In my free time, I enjoy paddleboarding, tubing down the river, hanging out at the lake, taking vacations to the beach, hiking, and spending time with my awesome family. My husband and I have been married for 24 years and have been blessed with three amazing sons. Our oldest has started his career, the middle one is pursuing a doctorate program, and our youngest is now in college. I love watching them do what they love!
