Welcome
Great to have you back to school.
Hello, My name is Lawrence K. Smith, also known as Larry. I take great pride in my alma mater. Growing up at TSD significantly influenced my decision to pursue a career as an educator, both as a teacher and a coach. Moreover, I am committed to paying this forward, which is why I aspire to continue teaching TSD students.
It’s truly exciting to embark on my 31st season as an employee at TSD and my 22nd year of teaching at TSD High School, focusing on social studies. I have taught various social studies subjects, including U.S. Government, U.S. Economics, African American Studies, U.S. History, World Geography, and the newly offered Dual Credit Personal Financial Literacy course this year. This journey has been incredibly rewarding, as I’ve witnessed the numerous accomplishments of TSD alumni in their personal and professional lives. It’s fulfilling to know that I’ve played a part in positively impacting their pursuits.
I attended the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID) and earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Industrial Drafting. For two seasons, I participated in Track & Field Athletics, specializing in hurdles. Later, I continued my education at Gallaudet University, where I was a four-year letterman for the Bison football team and earned my Bachelor of Arts in History.
Continuing my educational journey, I obtained a Master's degree in Deaf Education and Deaf Studies from Lamar University in 2002. Currently, I hold the position of Head Coach for both the Girls’ and Boys’ Track & Field teams at TSD. Additionally, I’ve been coaching various sports at TSD for over 30 years.
Curious about Larry Smith's beyond the working world!
