About Ms. Johnson

My name is Emily Johnson. This year, I am teaching English III, Journalism, and Broadcast Journalism and co-teaching English II and Honors with Ms. Alysha Spires.

I’m originally from Austin, Texas, and graduated from TSD in 2015. After that, I attended RIT to study philosophy and later earned my Bachelor's degree in English from Gallaudet University. My resume includes experience campaigning with Poor People’s Campaign, working as an actress (I once played on a Harvard University stage), lifeguarding, and copywriting. I am currently earning a Master’s degree in Deaf Education and Bilingual Studies at Gallaudet University.

I deeply love flora and fauna—all living things—and I try to appreciate every moment. I share my home with two wonderful dogs, Ruby and Dolly, who bring joy to my life.

I enjoy writing short stories and poetry and doing bilingual translations between English and ASL in my free time. I adore reading books, especially those with philosophical topics. I travel to hike and go camping with friends and family. Always remember that Mother Nature is the greatest teacher we can ask for.

Here is an acrostic poem of my name:

Energetic. Piquing questions.

Moves a big world.

Inside her finite head,

Longing to find answers, she

Yearns for an adventurous awakening.

        Yours truly,

                     Emily
