School Safety
Safety is a number one priority at the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD). It is the school's belief that preparedness and training in proper safety protocols will help mitigate incidents and prevent emergencies.
Critical to school safety is a uniform school response to any incident, TSD adopted the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) in 2018. The SRP is comprised of four actions:
- SECURE! is followed by "Get Inside. Lock outside doors" and is the protocol used to safeguard students and staff within the building.
- LOCKDOWN! is followed by "Locks, lights, out of sight" and is the protocol used to secure individual rooms and keep students quiet and in place.
- EVACUATE! is followed by a location, and is used to move students and staff from one location to a different location in or out of the building.
- SHELTER! is followed with the type and method and is the protocol for group and self protection.
Below is the SRP poster, which is posted in classrooms and common areas throughout TSD.
