Grading Policy/Syllabus

Participation (5%): Students are expected to be fully engaged during class by asking and answering questions and actively participating in class activities. Slouching is not acceptable. Helping or collaborating with peers also counts toward participation. Additionally, signing in/out and completing soft skills will be part of the participation grade.

Soft Skills (10%):  Arrive prepared and ready to work, with all required materials. Show respect and actively participate in class.

Tests/Quizzes/Projects (45%): Tests will be announced in advance. Quizzes may be announced or unannounced.  Group and individual projects, including research papers, and presentations, are also part of the course.

Assignments (40%): Classwork, and homework assignments are expected to be completed on time. Homework should be done at home or in the dorm.

Missing Work:  Assignments not handed in on time will receive a 1% grade.  Students will have two school days to complete their missing work.

Make-Up Work:

  • Responsibility: After an excused absence (illness, field trip, or athletics), it’s the student’s responsibility to check with the teacher or classmates for missed work.

  • Deadlines: Students have the same number of days they were absent to make up assignments. Missing work will be temporarily marked as 1% until it is submitted.

  • Assignments Due: If a student is absent when an assignment is due, it must be turned in on the day they return.

  • Tests/Quizzes: If absent on the day of a test or quiz, the student must be ready to take it on their first day back, unless the absence was extended.

The student will receive a zero on the assignments/tests if the absence is unexcused.

No extra credits will be given.

Plagiarism/Cheating will not be tolerated and result in a zero and possibly ISS.
