  • COVID-19 vaccines are safe and effective at preventing COVID-19 disease, especially severe illness and death.
  • COVID-19 vaccines reduce the risk of people spreading the virus that causes COVID-19.
  • You may have side effects after vaccination. These are normal and should go away in a few days.

  • Regardless if you already had COVID-19, you should be vaccinated. Experts do not yet know how long you are protected from getting sick against after recovery from COVID-19.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends updated COVID-19 booster shots. People 12 and older may get the new Pfizer booster and those 18 and older may get the Moderna booster.

The updated COVID-19 vaccine boosters include components of the original virus strain and the omicron variant.

APH recommends families prioritize getting up to date with their vaccines this fall, including updated seasonal flu shots and new COVID-19 boosters.

During the 2022–23 flu season, COVID-19 is expected to continue spreading in the U.S. It is recommended that individuals receive new booster doses, if eligible, in addition to the seasonal flu vaccine, which is for everyone 6 months and older. Ideally, flu shots should be administered during September and October and can be given at the same time as COVID-19 vaccines.
