Austin, Texas – Spokesperson for DPS, Regional Director, Dwight Mathis, says, “In accordance, with Governor Abbott’s School Safety Initiative, DPS Troopers are working with local law enforcement and school officials to increase the visibility of law enforcement on campuses and at school events. “We are proud to partner with TSD to bolster security on the campus and to enhance safety for all students and school staff.”When classes began, DPS troopers were regularly patrolling the grounds and buildings of the 67-acre TSD campus. Troopers have teamed with school security officers to review current safety procedures and become familiar with the layout of all 50 school buildings. They have also been meeting many of TSD’s 600 students and 500 employees, and acquainting themselves with the vibrant TSD community – a school and a home – actively operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. TSD Superintendent, Claire Bugen, introduced the DPS troopers to school staff, teachers, students and parents through a school-wide notice, encouraging everyone to greet and welcome the troopers to the TSD campus. “Safety is our number one priority here at TSD, Bugen said. “With our partners from DPS Capitol Region, we are proud to provide our staff and students an added sense of security.” For added visibility and to help troopers best integrate into the school community, another part of the partnership gives DPS space to establish an office on the TSD campus.
