Dear Friends of TSD,
In response to many of you who are reaching out to Texas School for the Deaf asking for how you can assist TSD students, families and others in the Deaf community who have been affected by the recent storm, we very much appreciate you contacting us with offers of support.
Please bear with us as our main focus currently is contacting all TSD families in the affected areas to ensure their safety, and arrange for all students’ safe return to school in Austin as soon as possible. We are also planning to house any students necessary on campus over this coming weekend.
Very soon, we will have identified and will post updates on our TSD homepage directing donations to directly assist affected TSD students and families.
In the interim there are a number of nonprofit organizations on the ground in the affected areas, as well as several fundraising campaigns being organized, in support of victims.
Updates are being shared on The Greater Houston Action Center of the Deaf’s Facebook Page, and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center in Corpus Christi’s Facebook Page.
Please research organizations carefully before you donate, and be aware of scammers.
The Better Business Bureau recommends using a credit card when making donations, and has vetted several nonprofit organizations that are raising funds for Hurricane Harvey relief assistance, including:
- The American Red Cross
- The Salvation Army
- Direct Relief
- GlobalGiving Foundation
- Humane Society of the United States
- Operation USA
- Church World Service
- Save the Children
- United Way of Central Texas
- United Way of the Coastal Bend
- United Way of Greater Houston

Queridos Amigos de TSD,
En respuesta a muchos de ustedes que están contactando y brindando solidaridad a la Escuela de Sordos Texas School for the Deaf preguntando cómo pueden ayudar a los estudiantes de TSD, familias y otros miembros de la comunidad de Sordos que han sido afectados por la reciente tormenta, agradecemos que nos contacten con ofrecimiento de apoyo.
Por favor, tenga paciencia con nosotros, ya que nuestro principal objetivo es contactar a todas las familias de TSD en las áreas afectadas para asegurar su seguridad, y hacer arreglos para que todos los estudiantes regresen a la escuela en la brevedad posible. También estamos planeando albergar a todos los estudiantes necesarios en el plantel escolar durante este fin de semana.
