Message from the Superintendent: Beginning of the School Year.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our 2017-2018 school year will begin on Monday, August 28, 2017. Registration/Move-In Day will be Sunday, August 27th from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM in the Seeger Gym.

Some of our local parents have noted that TSD is not starting on the same day as the Austin Independent School District (AISD). That is correct. We are beginning school on the first allowable day under state law.

AISD, as a "district of innovation," received a waiver from the state to start a week earlier. We did not apply for that. We may inquire about the requirements for this next year.

Attached are the 2017-2018 school calendar and the residential homegoing/return schedule for your reference. If you have any questions please contact your child’s Principal or the homegoing Transportation Coordinator.

I wanted to let you know that John Serrano, our former Director of Academic Affairs, has accepted the position of Superintendent at the Atlanta Area School for the Deaf. We will miss him very much but we are excited about his new opportunity. I am including an additional letter, which summarizes the reorganization that has taken place with John’s departure. I do not anticipate that it will have any impact on our families but I wanted you to know.

We are excited about starting a new school year and as always we are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.
