PTSO is sponsoring a Readathon at TSD! Our ECE, Elementary, Special Needs and Middle School students are reading to raise money for their classes and PTSO's enrichment activities. The goal for this month-long event is to encourage and motivate a love and excitement for reading in TSD's students by making reading fun and supporting it both at school and at home. The students participating in the Read-a-Thon are collecting pledges and donations for the minutes or number of books that they read. They will receive prizes and rewards for reaching reading goals and milestones. You can donate online to support their efforts. Weekly literacy activities including author visits, Bow Wow Reading Dog visits, Reading Spirit Week and a Literacy Carnival are part of the month long Readathon.
This 4 week long event provides an excellent opportunity for the Central Texas community, the Deaf community, and TSD’s school community (students, families, teachers and staff) to come together on a critical issue for many Deaf children – improving language acquisition and reading skills. Everyone knows - the more we read, the more we learn!
By becoming a donor for this first school-wide PTSO Read-a-Thon, you are helping Texas’ Deaf school community empower its students and their families in developing lifelong reading skills and putting a spotlight on the students and their reading efforts.
