COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Gallaudet University women's volleyball head coach Lynn Ray Boren has been selected to receive the USA Volleyball (USAV) Rebecca B. Howard Star Award for his part in positively impacting diversity in the sport of volleyball. Boren will be honored at the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Annual Coaches Convention in Oklahoma City, Okla., at the Cox Convention Center on December 17-21.
Boren has ben the head women's volleyball coach at Gallaudet University for the past nine years. In nine seasons, Boren has accumulated a 227-109 career record (.676 winning percentage) with the Bison and led them to five NCAA tournament appearances and four straight North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships. Boren has posted a 64-13 (.831 winning percentage) record in NEAC regular season matches.
The Rebecca B. Howard Star Award is initiated by the Diversity Commission to identify and recognize groups and individuals who demonstrate a successful commitment to diversity in volleyball.
