In American Sign Language, Texas School for the Deaf Students Present:
Cinderella April 4-5
Austin, Texas – April 4, 2014 – Audience members are in for a real treat as TSD students beautifully tell the story of Cinderella’s struggles on stage, in American Sign Language (ASL).
Before rehearsals began and as soon as roles were cast, the students worked together, alongside Director, Gabrielle Nocciolino and Producer, Clint Sadler, to translate the Cinderella script into ASL – creating their own version of the classic tale.
Thrilled to bring such an iconic fable to the audience at TSD, Nocciolino says, “We're most excited to share some not-so-traditional and quirky elements we’ve woven into the original story, and we hope along with us, the audience will enjoy creating some new memories of Cinderella’s journey.
Daniella Reyna, TSD senior from Uvalde in her fifth TSD performance, brings Cinderella’s humble and courageous character to life on stage.
“With the unique edge we’ve integrated into the character’s personality”, Reyna says, “TSD’s rendition of Cinderella, we hope, will remind everyone that it’s okay to be different, and it’s okay to dream your own dreams.”
With a special closeness to the story Reyna says she feels, she goes on to say, “I've enjoyed the challenge of connecting with Cinderella. She and I have a lot in common, and I identify with some of her struggles. The character and I have helped one another every day remember that when you truly believe, anything is possible."
“This has truly been a labor of love and dedication from so many people”, adds Nocciolino.
“Cinderella's journey, she says, reminds all of us to imagine the unimaginable and to embrace the journeys of making all dreams come true.”
