ASL Storytelling LIVE! Holiday Party
ASL Storytelling hosted one of their most popular events on December 14, 2023 -- the ASL Storytelling LIVE! Holiday Party. This event welcomes any program that participates in distance learning with our ASL Storytelling Team. We had three programs from central Texas join us, including a total of 97 participants. They enjoyed a live storytelling of The Mitten, led by our ASL Storytellers Justina Bailey, Lisa Cochran, and Milana Donatich. We had three guest student ASL Storytellers from TSD Middle School: Maribella, Ashyia, and Manjiri. Not only did the students do a fantastic job with storytelling, but they acted as peer language models and ran various activities during the holiday party. We're looking forward to next year's event!
2023 National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association
The National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA) has recognized our varsity volleyball team as the Team of the Year and honored RJ Kaufman as Coach of the Year within the division 1 Deaf schools. The achievements of this team throughout the season fill us with pride! Additionally, NDIAA also announced the fall sports All-American teams, and nine of our players from volleyball and football have been chosen as All-Americans! KUDOS to them!
Pancake Breakfast
Earlier this month, TSD proudly hosted yet another successful Pancake Breakfast, thanks to the collaboration of TSD, PTSO, and TSD Booster Club as co-sponsors. The event served as a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new acquaintances. Special thanks to Share the Will Foundation, Northwest Sertoma Club of Austin, Austin Roasting Company, Hiland Dairies, Labatt Food Service, Gary Knippa & Friends, Round Rock Ballet Folklorico, TSD Cafeteria, TSD Alumni Association, TSD Interpreting Services, and the volunteers!
Winter Festival
The Winter Festival 2024 was a success, providing joy and excitement for the students. The festival transformed the three gyms into a winter playground, with so many games! Two gyms were transformed into inflatable bouncy castles and one gym housed an 80’s themed arcade! Laughter echoed through the air as students bounced and played! Students at the arcade gym had the opportunity to immerse themselves in old-time gaming experience, creating a bridge between generations.
Two Legislative Offices Visit TSD
After delivering an overview presentation about TSD to Madison Yandel, Budget and Policy Advisor from the Governor's Office and Representative Brad Buckley, we took them on a tour of our campus.
In the morning, Madison saw the Early Learning Center, the Culinary Arts kitchen within our CTE program, high school and middle school classrooms, our Heritage Center, the cafeteria, and the elementary dorm. Later in the day, Representative Buckley and his staff saw the ELC, the elementary school, the Culinary Arts kitchen, and a high school classroom.
We’d like to extend a special shout-out to our remarkable elementary and high school ambassadors: Ziley and Sienna from elementary, and McKenna (Senior), Evangelina (Junior), and Celeste (Junior). Their knowledge and personal interactions greatly enriched our guests' experience. Representative Buckley enjoyed engaging with the students, inquiring about their favorite subjects and aspirations after high school.
