LOCAL STUDENTS REPRESENT TEAM U.S.A. AT THE 2021 SUMMER DEAFLYMPIC GAMES

May 1-15, 2022
Austin, Texas – April 28, 2022– Students from Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) represent Team U.S.A. at the international summer games for elite athletes who are deaf and hard of hearing. In Brazil today, they’ve joined an estimated 4,500 athletes, from more than 100 countries, to begin training for the summer Deaflympics, May 1 – 15, 2022.
Kourtney Dolliole/Track & Field: Dolliole, TSD senior from Houston, will compete in sprints and relays.
Marissa Giuntoli/Swimming: Giuntoli, TSD senior from Austin, will compete in swimming.
Trent Gobble/Track & Field: Gobble, TSD junior from Austin, will compete in jump and relay events.
Unlike Olympians, there are no sponsors for these athletes, who are solely responsible for funding the entirety of their own trip expenses through fundraising or out-of-pocket.
The site of the 24th summer Deaflympics, Caxias do Sul, Brazil, is the first Latin American country to host the games.

ABOUT THE DEAFLYMPICS
Organized by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD), the Deaflympics is an international multi-sport event. The summer games take place every four years and is the oldest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games. The Deaflympics, first held in Paris in 1924, was the first sporting event for people with disabilities.
