Superintendent's Letter on January 15th 2021 Heightened Awareness and Alert Re: Inauguration Day

 

You are no doubt aware of preparations across our nation for possible threats and unrest regarding Wednesday’s Inauguration.  Though all of us hope that Wednesday will mark a peaceful and celebratory transition of power, recent events at our nation’s Capitol advise us to be prepared.  I want to make it clear that we have received no specific threats.  Additionally, you may or may not be aware that state leadership proactively suspended legislative operations and closed the Capitol until January 26.  

 

Our Executive Leadership Team and our School SSPT (Safe and Supportive School Program Team) have implemented the following proactive measures:

• We have contacted our DPS Capitol Police liaisons to keep us posted regarding any actions that might ensue at the Capitol.
• We will be closing our Congress Street gate on Wednesday, January 20.
• We will be re-routing any day student buses from the downtown area.
• We will be increasing our security presence on campus Wednesday.
• The campus is already closed to visitors but we will be on special alert at each entrance on Wednesday.
• In the event we need to communicate any emergency information you will receive it by text message, phone, email, locked screen on your computer, scrolling message boards.
• Audible alarms and lights have been under repair so they may or may not be operational. (There will be a test conducted on Saturday.)
• The two most likely SRP actions would be LOCKOUT or LOCKDOWN.  
• Lockdown if there is any imminent threat or danger.
• Lockout if there is any activity in our area but not a direct threat.
• Though social distancing will be a challenge in a lockdown, masks are ESSENTIAL.
