What is CSW?
CSW provides sign communication improvement opportunities Educational interpreters can advance their skills
The Communication Skills Workshop (CSW) is a program offered through a collaboration between two agencies:
- The Education Service Center 11, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services
- The Educational Resource Center on Deafness at Texas School for the Deaf
CSW provides professional training for Interpreters Certified & Non Certified Interpreters working in a K-12 setting in Texas, Interpreter-Aides, ASL Teachers, Deaf Education Teachers, and Parents of deaf or hard of hearing children in Texas. To be eligible, participants must satisfy one of the two criteria below:
- currently work or expected to be employed the 2017-2018 school year in Early Childhood through Grade 12 classrooms.
- parents must have a deaf or hard of hearing child in Early Childhood through Grade 12.
CSW provides sign communication improvement opportunities.
- Improve expressive and receptive signed communication skills
- Interact with Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing Professionals
- Become immersed in a signing environment
- Learn more about Deaf Culture and the Deaf Community
- Be exposed to the difference between ASL and English Sign Systems
- Be involved in a variety of activities highly conducive to professional growth and development
- Improve expressive and receptive transliterating, interpreting, and sight translation skills
- Prepare for the BEI Written Test of English Proficiency (TEP)
- Prepare for the Basic and Advanced performance test
- Learn more about how to be a part of the educational team while following the Code of Professional Conduct
- Board of Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are awarded.
