Austin, Texas – March 27, 2013 The Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) welcomes the community to celebrate Deaf History Month with a panel of distinguished speakers and DVD launch of the documentary “Journey Through Deaf Texas”, produced by Davideo Productions, thanks to the Texas Association of the Deaf – on Wednesday March 27 at 1:30 p.m. in the R. L. Davis Auditorium at the school’s south Austin campus – 1102 South Congress Avenue.
"Journey Through Deaf Texas" chronicles the rich history of Texas’ vibrant Deaf community and the Texas Association of the Deaf, from 1886-2009
WHAT: Texas School for the Deaf’s Deaf History Celebration – Premiering the documentary “Journey Through Deaf Texas”, Q&A and discussion with esteemed community leaders, including:
- Gonzalo M. Barrientos – former Texas Senator
- Dr. Bobbie Beth Scoggins – former president, National Association for the Deaf, and the USA Deaf Sports Federation
- Dr. Steve C. Baldwin – “Journey Through Deaf Texas” writer and co-producer
- David H. Pierce – documentary co-producer, director and editor
- Larry D. Evans – president, Texas Association of the Deaf
- Dr. Gertrude ‘Gertie’ Galloway – former president, National Association for the Deaf
